KAYS' DREAM OF THE DYNABOOK

Are cell phones replacing the notebook computers?
In 1977 Alan Kay and Adele Goldberg envisioned their newly designed Dynabook as a tool that would allow all people of all ages to express their creativity. Now some thirty years later I would stay their vision was right on target. I was amazed to read that children in junior high schools not only were able to write programs and understand how to make the computer more intuitive but also were also able to teach classes to their peers. Today it is still the children that are able to understand the newest forms of technology.
Parents are giving theirs kids cell phones. In turn the kids are becoming experts in text messaging. The kids are developing there on language of acronyms and versions of shorthand. It is driving the demand for a faster and more reliable connection. More band with will allow people to do more things, which I believe, will lead to more user-friendly devices.
In 1977 Kay and Goldberg wonder what if everyone in the world had a Dynabook? Today the Dynabook is old and dead. I know the notebook will be dead someday day too, I just wonder if I will live to see it put to rest.
